Happy spring! We have enjoyed spending time outside and feeling the sun on our faces. One day, Damon said, "This is the best air I've ever breathed!"
We focused on letter X this week, and talked about xrays and how they take pictures of our bones. We even made our own out of q-tips! The kids are so excited that we only have 2 letters left to learn! They are doing so well and will be ready for kindergarten very soon! On Tuesday, we had a blast at Tour de Memphis. The kids fished at the pyramid, played basketball with Grizz, biked on the Green Line, and visited the Memphis zoo. To finish, they had a dance party with Elvis! Just a reminder...we will be closed April 19th and 22nd for Easter. What a fun week we had! The Happy Campers focused on the letter H. We read Halloween stories, made funny hedgehogs from clay and sticks we found on a walk, and worked on our Hh handwriting.
Our Pumpkin Patch party was lots of fun. The kids loved the games we played and really enjoyed picking out their pumpkins that grew overnight on the playground! Those magic pumpkin seeds are amazing! A special thank you to the parents that sent goodies and came to help out! Have a wonderful November weekend! We have had a fantastic week!! Parents’ Club provided an in-house field trip from Lichterman Nature Center. Miss Beth talked to us about nocturnal animals. She brought an opossum for the children to touch. The children enjoyed this so much!
We read Rainbow Fish and enjoyed learning bout how sharing our blessings makes us happy. We have a Fantastic Letter F show and tell..frisbees, fish, fairies, footballs, flowers, and more! We made letter F feathers and read books about flamingos and foxes and feet! The beautiful weather let us soak up lots of sunshine this week, which was such a treat! I hope you have a great weekend. We had fun this week with the letter C. We enjoyed reading Corduroy and making our own Corduroys with buttons. We read stories about chameleons and cookies and crabs. We talked about our favorite kinds cookies and even made Cs out of cookies. We also talked about Copy Cats and had fun copying each other!
Our Bible Stories this week were about the Tower of Babel and Abraham and Sarah having a baby. All the kids loved telling about when they were in mommy’s tummies! We have been practicing for the Grandparents Day program. Please make sure your child is at school next week by 8:45. We are practicing promptly at 9:00. This is going to be a very special time for your child and grandparents. I hope you have a great weekend! Wow!! We have had a very busy week! We have learned so much. We spent so much time exploring the letter Bb and discovering all the words we know that begin with B. The children love coming in each day with new B words they have thought of. We are spending more time in our stations as the children’s attention spans are getting a little bit longer. Has your child told you about ABC Mouse on the iPad? Each child has their own Learning Path and they are doing so well!
Our Bible Story this week was about Noah. We spent time hearing the story and talking about how the rainbow is God’s promise to His people. I will continue to send home homework for you to work on with your child. Thank you for your participation with this. Have a wonderful weekend! We have had a very busy short week. We talked a lot about the letter A. We made alligators out of the letter A and worked on writing uppercase and lowercase Aa. We worked on adding ”A” Words to our Word Wall. The children really enjoyed sharing their “A” items for Show and Tell! I will be sending home handwriting practice sheets on some days. Please have your child practice the letter and return it to me. The extra practice at home will help them so much. Thank you for your help! We had another super week! We are completely rotating through our literacy stations. It is amazing to watch the children as they move through the stations: reading, toolbox (phonics work), iPad, and Miss Elizabeth’s table. We had a very special visit from Elmo, so look for pictures on our blog!
Next week will be another busy week. We will start learning our first letter and number. We will practice writing both the letter A and the number 1. Please reinforce this at home and help your child to recognize both of these and the sound for letter A. It will be easier if they learn the letters, numbers, and sounds during the week we are studying them instead of having to learn a bunch at the end of the grading period. Thank you for your help. I hope you have a great long weekend! We had another super week! We have been working on establishing our routine and structure of a Junior Kindergarten classroom and have begun working on getting into the rhythm of our literacy stations. The children are so excited about all of the “fun” (educational) activities they will do. I am so proud of the progress they have made!
We had so much fun singing “The Wheels on the Bus” song on an actual school bus. The children thought it was so cool! I took tons of pictures that will be on the blog. JK got a special treat and got to honk the horn on the bus! We have spent two weeks becoming comfortable in our new class. Lots of time has been spent adjusting to our rules and expectations of JK. Beginning Monday, I will begin moving clips for behavior issues. Be sure to check your child’s daily conduct sheet in the binder. If your child moved their clip, there will be an explanation. Each child is so different, and we will all need lots of behavior reminders next week. MUCH GRACE WILL BE SHOWN. :) Our goal is for your child to experience success in the classroom. Thank you for sharing your child with us! We have had an awesome first week of school. Everyone came eager to get started from the very first day! We had so much fun reading about Pete the Cat, Chester, and Miss Bindergarten. We read Pete the Cat Rocking in my School Shoes and colored our favorite shoes. We also read The Kissing Hand. It is a sweet story about Chester the Raccoon's first day of school. His mother gave him a special "kissing hand" to help him know how much she loved him. I hope your child shared that story with you. Your children got their own special kissing hand to remind them how much they are loved. We also learned about nocturnal animals and how God made all of the animals as different and unique as each one of us. We had so much fun!
If your child arrives at school before 8:00, Before School Care is provided in room 14. I will get them at 8:00 and bring them to our classroom. I use the time before 8:00 to work in my room preparing for the day. If your child attends After School Care, he/she will be taken to the designated room at 3:15.
